To the family of Thom Dowd,I admired Thom and loved to attend his concerts on Music Island. Listening now to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gP2xm07oo8 - I was once a flautist. Mitsie, my heart especially goes out to you at this time. I pray for peace and comfort for the entire family.Lisa aka Edith
I am another of the many guests of Music Island, amator player of recorder in real life. I still remember a performance, when he let us see his students playing, giving to me the impression of a kind, noble-hearted man, not only a Maestro. Now I believe he is by God, and they please each other, in the heavenly armony, forever.peter
To Thom's family and friends,I was so saddened to hear of Thom's passing. My heart goes out to Mitzie, daughters, Gorse, and his friends and students. May you be comforted by prayers and kind wishes. I knew Thom through his involvement with Renaissance Island. He was kind, optimistic, positive, always with a can-do spirit. The music that Thom and his students brought to Music Island and to Ren enriched us all, as you know. Several years ago when the SLCC met in Chicago, I shared a video of Ren while serving as a panelist in the education track. Thom provided the music for the video. The entire audience was mesmerized and captivated by the music, and I think showed everyone the power that virtual space has to bring us together and transform our lives. Peace, Thom, and awesome journeys! Sincerely, Korrigan/Mary-Carol
Thom was one of the founders of Music Island and set the tone of events there. Serious music, serious fun, friends, fellowship, and learning. He is irreplaceable and the void left in so many places is huge.
To Thom's family,Thom remains much in our minds and hearts. Recently, Diamond Coronet, one of the long-time managers of Renaissance Island, made a donation in honor of Thom, in USD, to South Central Regional Library Council, Ithaca, NY for the continuation of Renaissance Island.
